At that time it was only possible for Naval Ratings to attend, as it was inside the Royal Naval Barracks 54, with an entrance via the Devonport Royal Dockyard. and it reminds me a little bit of that in regards to the films they show, not necessarily the building itself.

This was exactly what I got when heading to Cinema 6 at Palace Barracks on my Tuesday evening.One thing I've noticed in Brisbane is that it's filled with large boutique cinemas. They have all sort of movies from Hollywood lastest to festival, Dear Palace Barracks; The bar is licenced which means you can take a glass of wine or a beer in the theatre room with you. Forget the frozen Coke, popcorn has a new best friend!Other facets that will appeal to the more mature movie watcher are the fact that they screen not just standard Hollywood fare but also participate in international film festivals and give coverage to more art-house film. Which cinema? The three heritage listed buildings from the Police era remaining on the site are the stables (1912), the three storey brick barracks (1939) and the radio communications centre (1941). The Palace Cinemas in The Barracks complex has a modern, comfortable fit-out offering a licensed bar and cafe and a few medium sized cinemas. There's something delightfully indulgent about going to the cinema, and Palace Barracks manages to offer the sort of indulgence that adult will enjoy (nothing suss ;).
It's also about walking up to the top floor of the complex and looking out over the city's very beautiful inner north.
